The rehabilitation of this masonry building includes new classrooms, a conference room, separate student and faculty kitchens, a student lounge, faculty offices, and replacement of all exterior windows and doors. One of the most difficult challenges was the fact that there had already been multiple renovations to Peck Hall since its original construction in 1895. Hueber-Breuer had to ensure that the existing building wasn’t compromised and that the layout and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure could be reused, when possible, in order to maintain cost effectiveness. Multiple, separate contracts with the primary tenant, Owner, Onondaga County, and others, along with a tight schedule and last minute design changes added another layer of complication. Financial and logistical handling resulted in goals met and the schedule maintained.
