Property Description

Winner of the Build New York Award This urban makeover was far more than skin deep. The Larned Building was built in 1869 in an architectural style known as Second Empire, which was popular for buildings built between 1865 and 1880. After a fire gutted the interior of the building, the owners decided to transform its crumbling retail/office interior into a parking facility and connect it to the existing Vanderbilt Garage next door.

Hueber-Breuer was charged with building the 150-car parking garage inside this historic structure without damaging the exterior in any way. A new concrete foundation was poured and a steel structure was threaded through the existing floors and walls before the interior could be removed. The new structure was built from the top down, a remarkable engineering feat and an industrial first. This award-winning project is an example of Hueber-Breuer’s innovation at work.
